hi Karima!
I got a great surprise when I read your post - good to catch up again! Let me think about what you are asking and get back to you a bit later - when it's not so late at night, too! At the moment, my thoughts are not at their clearest - but I promise I won't forget.

Hi Karima!
It's definitely worth checking the site - even though only you and I are writing on it!
Have you heard whether you have been accepted into CGEA yet? It's a good course - and I think you'd like it. It's hard work but a lot of fun, and most of the people who do it speak very good English. No, I'm not teaching CGEA - I'm teaching English for Academic Purposes and Certificate IV Access but I'll be in Open Access too - so maybe I'll see you then.
I have just had my purse and my mobile stolen- not the thing you want to happen just before Christmas!
Have a good holiday, Karima, and, if I don't catch you on the blog before then, I'll see you next term!
Tuesday, October 28, 2003
Hi Karima!
It's a long time since I've checked out the site - and I found two messages from you! I've discovered that the blog site now works properly from the Open Access Centre - great! But I think it's a bit late now for my current class.
Are you doing another computer course this term as well as Frameworks III? I haven't seen you around for quite a while now. How are you? And what are you going to do next year?
Tuesday, August 26, 2003
Hi Karima!
Well, the blog certainly seems to work fine from your evening class. I don't think I like all the changes that have been made to it - I'm sure that it is more difficult in the early stages of logging in than it used to be!
What did you do in your computer class this week?
Tuesday, August 19, 2003
Hi Karima!
All my new students are having problems getting on the blog - so it's good to see that you are still doing it easily! Tell me though, is it difficult for you to get on it using the Open Access computers? The Open Access computers seem to show the blogs with a completely different screen, and there are some problems with posting. I would be really grateful, Karima, if you could try on the OA computers - and let me know how different it is for you. See whether you can post a message as easily from there.
I, too, was very sorry about Sharon's mum. In fact, I was going to the funeral last Wednesday - but then I got flu, and I have been ill and at home ever since. I would have liked to have been with Sharon - but I know that Jeanette went.
I'm so glad you are doing an extra computer class. What is it like? What sort of things do you cover?
Speak to you again soon!
Monday, August 11, 2003
Hi Karima!
It's good to hear from you! How are you all? I don't see Munira very much - and I haven't seen Niemat at all. I've been pretty busy, too. I've just made a new blog for my new class - so I've thought of all of you quite a lot recently! Say "Hi!" to everyone from me!
Sunday, August 03, 2003
Hi Karima!
I can see that you've been trying to get on the blog - are you having problems? I thought I'd try a post and see what's up.
Sunday, July 27, 2003
I don't know, Karima! Perhaps you can remind everyone that it's still your chat page - but it will only work if some other people get on, won't it? At the moment, it's just you and me - but it's good to talk to you, anyway! How's your new course going? I'm very busy - but I still hope I'll keep in touch with all of you.
See you soon.

Hi Karima - and anyone else who is logging on!
Shane - I've noticed that you seem to have some problems. Is it because of the new blog design? Send me an email - or give me a ring - I think everyone would be pleased to hear how your "working holiday" went.
I had a wonderful time sailing on the Gippsland lakes and exploring the coast - and it was sunny and WARM! It was an awful shock to come back to freezing Melbourne. All of you guys are really lucky - we have to go back to work tomorrow. You can think of me working away while you're still on holiday! Don't forget that you can drop in to see us at RMIT anytime this week - and I'm pleased that Karima and Selahattin have posted messages on the site. Remember that it's yours - for as long as you want it!
Friday, July 04, 2003
Hi everyone!
I hope you're all having a great holiday. I am just about to leave for the Gippsland lakes - I think it's going to be very cold, but we are going to try some sailing! I guess it will be even colder if I fall in!
Remember to keep in touch!

Hi everyone!
I just wanted to say "thank you" to you all for the really beautiful flowers - they are now on the dining table here at home, and they look fantastic! I'd also like to say thank you for being such a great class - I've enjoyed being with you very much - and I'm going to miss you!
I hope that you'll all keep in touch, with me and with each other, on the blog site.
Have a good holiday!
Tuesday, June 17, 2003
Hi everyone!
This will be the very last time we get to use the site together in class, so -
Here's your task for today!
Write about what happened on your excursion yesterday - you can write about whatever you like.
It can be serious - or funny. It can be about you - or about someone else on the trip.
Try to describe what happened really carefully. (Remember that I wasn't there, so I didn't see Jennie getting the bus stuck in the mud - or Danny falling in the river - or Karima getting left behind...........)
Don't publish it until everyone has finished!
Saturday, June 14, 2003
Hi Van!
It's good to see you on the blog!
I heard the news you talked about, too. Did anyone else? I felt uncomfortable, too, but I think we must be very careful about judging the customs of other countries and other religions. Sometimes the things that seem uncomfortable to some of us are seen to be the right thing by other people. Has anyone else got any views on this?
Tuesday, June 10, 2003
Hi everyone!
I can't believe that we are back to Wednesday again - already! Selahattin, I'm sorry that no-one ever seems to log on when you do - we'll fix up something next lesson. I hope that you all had a good long weekend - I missed seeing you on Monday!
We're almost at the end of the course - it doesn't seem possible. See you tomorow!
Thursday, June 05, 2003
Hi everyone!
And hi Selahatin - I think you'll have to tell people when you're going to log in and arrange to meet them. Good to hear you. Apologies to you all because I am not going to be there tomorrow, Friday - I'm going to the dentist to get my (very sore) tooth fixed. Shane and Kirsten are going to finish your resumes with you - we hope that you've all got your disks. Don't forget there's no class on Monday, so have a good Queen's Birthday weekend. I'll see you on Wednesday - but maybe I'll see some of you on the blog before then.
Wednesday, June 04, 2003
Hi everyone to day is 4th of June and we are nearlly finish the course I'll miss every on and I'll miss that great time we had with Jen.Jennie and sheron. this coutrse is very good course I liked and also I liked my classmate and my teachers I am very happy with this semester and I hope to find my next semester as same as this semester.
Hi everyone today I would like to tell you something.
When wealth is lost nothing is lost.
When helth is lost something is lost.
When character is lost all is lost.
I hope to enjoy with this saying.
Tuesday, June 03, 2003
Hi everyone!
Welcome back!
If there aren't any more jokes, we'll have to award joint prizes to Danny and Karima, I think - I liked both their jokes! Today, I thought I'd spend some time with each of you showing you how to link if you're stuck. And I have just read all your narrative assessment tasks - and they are really very good. Well done!
Today's new task: write a description of someone in the room - don't say who it is; just post it and we'll see if we can guess! You will need to add a number, and try to avoid saying "he" or "she." Here's my entry:
1.This person is tall, has dark hair and is wearing a blue T shirt. Who is it?
Monday, June 02, 2003
Hi everyone!
Well, Selahattin and Danny have certainly worked out how to link, and Karima, so have you. Look carefully at your spelling - that's what is making things difficult for you. Danny, I don't know why Karima calls me "Janny" - but I'm getting to quite like it! It's not as boring as "Jane!" And, Danny, you've got
half the joke: you need your dictionary to check the meanings of one word in the joke! (hint - it can be a
noun or a
verb. Now can you work out how to write parts of your messages in
bold?
See you soon - for your assessment!
Thursday, May 29, 2003
Hi everyone!
Because we did all the online links, we didn't have time to catch up on the jokes. So far, Danny and Karima are well ahead - but here's one from me (and you'll need your dictionaries!)
A panda walks into a restaurant, sits down and orders a sandwich. He eats the sandwich, then pulls out a gun and shoots the waiter dead. As the panda stands up to leave, the manager shouts:
"Hey! Where are you going? You just shot my waiter and you didn't pay for your sandwich!"
The panda yells back at the manager: "Hey, I'm a PANDA! Look it up!"
So the manager opens his dictionary and looks up the word 'panda'. It reads "Panda: A tree dwelling marsupial of Asian origin, characterised by distinct black and white colouring. Eats shoots and leaves."
And well done, Karima, you've got the links trick! Give us another one - can you make it a newspaper article?

Tuesday, May 27, 2003
Hi everyone!
It seems that both Danny and Karima have had some car/license problems! It was a good idea to post the SARS program on the site, Danny. Did any of you log on in time to see it?
3 C's online:
I thought that next time we're all in the computer room you can learn how to use the online newspaper links for your 3 C's. I've just checked out an article in the Herald Sun 27/5/03
click here!. It's about the police who have been charged in court today with drug trafficking. What do you think of police making a lot of money in this way?
This way, I can show all of you how to put a link into your messages - it's a bit complicated to explain in a message, Danny!
Sunday, May 25, 2003
Hi everyone - or should I say "Hi Danny?"
I hope you're all having a good weekend - it is freezing in my house, so obviously winter has arrived. Before I actually came to Australia, I thought it was a warm, sunny place to live in. I don't think so anymore!
Thursday, May 22, 2003
Hi everyone!
Wednesday's class went far too quickly - but never mind: I hope more of you will challenge Danny and Karima and post some jokes before next week. Tomorrow, Sharon and I are going to a Language Frameworks Meeting - and I hope that you all remember, and don't come into class. I'll hope to read some great blog posts instead! Have a good day, and I'll see you on Monday.
Wednesday, May 21, 2003
Hi everyone ! (And I guess I must have just missed both Danny and Selahattin - It's late!)
So - it's Wednesday again, and I'm looking forward to seeing what you've got to say on the blog. The next bit is very important: both Danny and Karima have posted great jokes. Which one do you think should win this week's prize? You should each say which one you like best, and then we'll give out the prizes. Start voting now!
Sunday, May 18, 2003
Oh Danny! That must be the most painful joke I have ever heard! What do the rest of you think? We've had two jokes so far this week - from Danny and from Karima. Which one do you like best?
Saturday, May 17, 2003
Hi everyone! Here is the "link" for recycled computers - Munira, Niemat - and anyone else who is interested.

Have a great weekend!
Friday, May 16, 2003
Hi everyone!
I'm not quite sure why it is always so late at night before I get a chance to get on to the blog - it's nearly 1 a.m. - so I'll be seeing most of you in just a few hours time! It's great to see all your postings. Karima, I really enjoyed your joke. What do the rest of you think? How does it compare with Jemila's joke/article last week? It's good to be able to keep in touch with people this way: it was good to hear from you, Nazmiye. Is your son better now? Lidia, I liked your poetry! I didn't know we had a poet in the class~ are there any others out there? I wonder how carefully you all read each other's posts - did you all see Selahattin's question to Karima??!!And I think it's great to be able to keep up with Shane and Kirsten even when the two of you are not at the LSU. I think it would be good to hear some things about Bundoora. Perhaps the rest of us could come out and visit you and have a campus tour?
Danny is really getting truly blogged! Before all of you change your names to letters, I think that as long as you use only your first name, it's fine. If we have everyone using letters only, we'll have to work out whether it's Kirsten or Karima we're talking to!
I've had a really relaxing day off today! I had lunch with a friend, went shopping and had tea with some other friends. I bought some plants to put in the garden - but I didn't have time to plant them because it was dark when I got home. My greatest extravagance today was buying a camera. My camera "died" when I was in Tasmania at Christmas. (Well, actually, I dropped it). I was thinking of buying a digital one - but I've bought an ordinary one instead - it's pretty snazzy! (Try looking that word up!)
Sunday, May 11, 2003
Hi Danny! It's good to hear from you again! I'd like to know what things you found on the links, and what you thought of them. Sometimes reading the papers online is easier than in the print form, I think. And I like clicking between the different papers and comparing what they say - sometimes they're totally different! I have just added two more links: to "Online newspapers" ( the one we used in class) and to the BBC. Here, you can listen to the news on the audio links, or watch short videos. I have just watched one on Iraq, and the quality was quite good.

Nazmiye - and everyone else, too!
I have just had an idea. Click on "view web page" (that is on the left side of the central black bar - just below where you will type). That will open up the website. On the right side there are three "links" to the newspapers. If you click on the "Herald Sun" link, you can read the paper from there. I have just read an article called "Whirlwind tour for defiant G-G" - which means that the Governor General is very busy (like a whirlwind, or a tornado). I didn't know that at the moment he is in Melbourne! Did you? You could read just the first 5 paragraphs of that - try it.
Further down the Herald Sun page, there is a heading which says "Recent audio." If you click on that, you can hear the Governor General's voice denying the rape allegations against him. Or you can hear the voice of John Howard, saying that there is no reason to sack the Governor General. And lots more, too! (Don't listen to the one about the climber who cut off his arm, though - that's very nasty!)
Even if you don't understand everything, it doesn't matter - just enjoy clicking and exploring different things!
Hi everyone - and especially, this time, Nazmiye. Can you tell us all exactly what you don't understand? Is it the vocabulary? The vocabulary in newspaper articles is often very difficult at first. Could you choose a short article, or the first paragraph of a longer one - and type just a bit of it in here? Maybe someone else can help you, too. If you can show me what it is that you don't understand, I'll try to help. I know this is easy for me to say, but "Don't worry!" Even if it sometimes difficult now, it will get easier - I promise! One very important thing to remember is: don't try to do too much. Choose a short article, or just part of a longer one. And look at the words under the photographs - do they give you any clues?
I'll log on tomorrow to see how you are going. Good luck - and you're not on your own! You've got a whole class of friends to support you!
Thursday, May 08, 2003
Hi everyone!
I don't know what the rest of you think but I think that Jemila should be the prizewinner this week! She has certainly written the longest entry, and it's a joke - and it's even about idioms in speaking English! Well done, Jemila - I really enjoyed this, especially the bits about using your eyebrows! That's exactly what makes the same phrase mean different things! Karima, don't worry about your work: I can see that you are very keen to catch up on everything you missed when you were away. We will have time to sort it all out on Friday. I think that you chat well - and that's what this site is for. Lots of practice at just writing as you speak. And you're also very good at this Niemat - I'll let you know if I get anything on Mother's Day after Sunday! Have any of you tried the newspaper links? I thought it would be a good idea to give you those for your "3 C's" ideas. See you in the morning.

Hi Danny! I wonder if anyone else will manage to get online before Wednesday's lesson? I'm really pleased that you managed to do it. Well done! This is a "fun" site for you to have a look at - and I thought your son might enjoy it, too! Let me know what you think of it. There are actually three parts to the narrative - The Stolen Statue, The Thieves and In the Maze. Here is the link:
The Adventures of Digger

Hi everyone! This is your chat page - so, welcome to your own site!
